Kitchener City Council has approval a new $144 million recreation complex located at Schlegel Park that will become the new home of the Kitchener Soccer Club and Kitchener TFC. In addition to a FIFA-sized indoor pitch, the facility will also house an aquatic centre, a walking track and a cricket batting cage.
The project is expected to break ground next month with the hope that the facility will open its doors to the public by summer of 2026.
The new rec complex would also be the city’s first net-zero carbon building. It will have geothermal heating and cooling and the largest solar panel in the city, with the aim of reducing 22 tonnes of carbon annually.
The Club is very excited by what this will mean for the soccer community and all the children in Kitchener!
