Refereeing soccer is a flexible and well-paying part-time job, and it is a great way to develop leadership and life skills.
Ontario Soccer offers two referee courses. You need to complete either the small sided course or the entry level course to become a registered soccer referee in Ontario. All referees who work a minimum of 10 games are eligible to be reimbursed by the club for the cost of the course registration fee.
- Small sided course
- You need to be 12 years old or older before April 1, 2025, to take the course
- It will allow you to referee small-sided games (U7- U10 level)
- The fee for the course in Kitchener is $110 (registration fee refunded by Kitchener SC upon successful completion of the course and refereeing a minimum of 10 games during the season)
- You need to complete the online modules before attending the in-person course
- Entry-level course
- You need to be 14 years old or older before April 1, 2025, to take the course
- Will allow you to referee 9 v 9 and 11 v 11 games (U11+) and be an assistant referee (AR)
- The fee for the course in Kitchener is $110 for the actual course and $30 for the online self guided modules (registration fee refunded by Kitchener SC upon successful completion of the course and refereeing a minimum of 10 games during the season)
- You need to complete the online modules before attending the in-person course

Dates of Clinics at the Kitchener Soccer Club at Budd Park (note- these dates are not yet showing as available on Refcentre. Once our club’s hosting applications have been approved, they will become available to select. The courses on Apr 6 and 13 should appear by mid March. The May 10 courses should show as options by the end of March)
Apr 6- Small sided clinic
Apr 13- Entry level clinic
May 10- Small sided and Entry level clinic
It is possible to take courses at other locations on other dates, providing there is space and availability. People who live in Kitchener and people who are affiliated with our club receive priority for the clinics we host.
Other instructions for referee courses on May 10 at the Kitchener Soccer Club
- Our courses are currently set as “private”. Once you get to the point in the course registration to choose the May 10 course in Kitchener, the system will ask you for a code. Email headreferee@kitchenertfc.com to ask for the code. The code will be provided to anyone with a Kitchener address or affiliated with the Kitchener Soccer Club.
- You will also need to ask for a link to submit payment for the May 10 courses to the Kitchener Soccer Club. Note- referees are eligible to be reimbursed the course fee if they work 10 games in our house league program.
