TELUS She CAN Coach is in line with Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program, which comprises Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, and Soccer for Life Workshops. This program offers financial support, training, and access to essential resources to drive systemic change at the grassroots level. The goal is to equip women with the tools and support they need to begin and thrive in their coaching careers.
Why Are We Here?
We are here to close the gender gap in youth soccer participation across Canada. Together, we are committed to ensuring every girl—regardless of where she lives— knows she has a place in this sport.
Role models play a pivotal role in shaping a child’s experience in sports. For young girls, seeing women in coaching roles is critical to inspiring them to get involved and, more importantly, to stay involved. This program is one piece of the puzzle—a starting point. It’s not the solution, but it’s part of the solution.
What is TELUS She CAN Coach, and Who is it For?
TELUS She CAN Coach is a national coach recruitment, development, and training project designed for women to address the challenges they face regarding soccer participation.
The core intention of TELUS She CAN Coach is to create pathways for recruiting, developing, and training women coaches, beginning at the grassroots level. By providing financial support and access to necessary coach education programs, we aim to help women coaches navigate the system successfully.
Key features include:
- Financial support and access to Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program and SafeSport Roster training.
- Access to a national support network that enhances grassroots capacity, including exclusive content, virtual webinars with sports experts, and ongoing guidance.
Intended Outcomes:
- Increase the number of women role models in coaching to inspire young girls to stay in the game.
- Expand the pool of women coaches at the grassroots level, empowering them to pursue advanced coach education.
- We aim to ensure coaches can access educational resources, support through training modules, and a national and local network to enhance their experience. Ideally, recruited coaches will work toward achieving “Trained” status to coach in the 2025 outdoor season.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a new coach looking to grow their coaching acumen or a candidate interested in beginning their coach education. The program is flexible, allowing coaches to complete training at their own pace while providing guidance and suggested timelines.
Eligibility:
All coaches must be at least 16 years old to ensure they have the necessary leadership and communication skills for participation. Candidates must be involved or looking to get involved with Kitchener SC or Kitchener TFC teams for the 2025 season.
